Privacy Policy

Drive Folder Size is designed to calculate and display recursive folder sizes inside Google Drive while minimizing access to user data.

Google user data accessed

The extension requests the read-only Google Drive scope drive.metadata.readonly. Its Drive API requests ask only for item IDs, MIME types, trashed status, parent-child relationships, file size and quota-size metadata. It does not request or read file contents and cannot upload, edit, move, download or delete Drive files.

How the data is used

This metadata is used only to identify folders, traverse their non-trashed descendants, total file sizes, and show folder-size badges requested by the user. The extension does not use Google user data for advertising, profiling, credit decisions, or training generalized artificial-intelligence or machine-learning models.

Storage and retention

Calculated folder IDs, total sizes, file counts, folder counts and timestamps are cached in chrome.storage.local for 30 minutes by default. Incomplete calculation checkpoints may remain for up to 24 hours so large scans can resume. Users can delete these records at any time with Clear size cache; uninstalling the extension also removes its local data.

The enabled setting and cache-duration setting may be stored using chrome.storage.sync, according to the user’s Chrome synchronization configuration. Drive metadata is not placed in synchronized settings.

Data sharing and transfers

Drive API requests are sent directly from the extension to Google over HTTPS using authorization managed by Chrome. The developer does not operate a server for the extension and does not receive, sell, rent or share users’ Google Drive metadata. The extension contains no advertising, analytics or tracking SDK.

Authentication

Chrome’s Identity API obtains the Google OAuth access token. The extension uses it transiently to authenticate direct Drive API requests and does not write it to extension storage or send it to the developer.

Limited Use

The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Your choices

You may decline Google authorization, switch off folder-size badges, clear the local cache, revoke the extension’s Google Account access, or uninstall the extension. Without authorization, Drive size calculation is unavailable.

Changes

If the extension’s data practices change, this policy and the in-product disclosure will be updated before the new practice is introduced.
